Hi all,
As you can tell I've been getting back into animating over the summer while I have some time off and am interested to know what everyone uses?
I used to, up until getting a new laptop, use windows movie maker to create the picture stream and filmora to add effects etc post edit. However movie maker is no more it seems and am wondering what to use for my matches I animate (bare in mind I use a windows). Any suggestions?

What masking i do is typically in stop motion studio. For sounds, panning, or tampering with multiple speeds in a single ani, i use powerdirector

I use the Stopmotion Studio Pro app on my phone and sometimes computer, but planning to make the move onto Dragonframe soonish. When I use my computer I use a Canon EOS 6D with a 16-35mm lens. I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my videos, and Adobe Animator to mask. I would recommend those two Adobe programs, but they are costly, I use them as I get the free with my school email. I'd say animate with Stopmotion Studio if its available on Windows since it gives you all the tools u need with the pro version such as masking and frame editing, and really any basic movie maker that u can layer with should do.

I use stop motion pro on my mobile to take the pictures, upload all of them onto my laptop, edit string and whatever else out with paint.net or photoshop if it’s harder.
Then I put them all together in wlmm which I like Cus you can edit the hold time of each individual picture that way. (I have an old install file that I transferred to my windows 10 hardrive for movie maker as it’s no longer available, I could send you it but it’s a uk version so would depend where you are located wether it works or not)
Then if I need any green screen or overlay type effects I use vsdc which is a free video editor and is really decent for basic advanced effects (if that even makes sense)

Thank you for all the suggestions!
Was trying to use Vegas but it seems unnecessarily complicated! I've heard lots of positives about Stopmotion Studio!

Sorry for the double post but does anyone here have a good technique for editing out hand shadows post edit? I take a picture with no figures in it before I start the animation, this allows me to layer that behind all my pictures in paint.net, then erase the shadow on the animation frame, then you can mess about with brightness and contrast if needed until it gets a smooth blend.

Sorry for the double post but does anyone here have a good technique for editing out hand shadows post edit? Stopmotion Studio pro has a good masking feature, where you sort of draw out the shadows using a pictyure without figures. I like to use Adibe Animator as frame by frame it is much more precise and doesn't decrease image quality

That's super smart! Never thought of that but might give it a go!

A lot of my animations are done with a rig or hand rather than string if I need to. By masking with Stopmotion Studio or Adobe Animator, all I'm doing is cutting out the part where I don't want to see string, rig or hand and then putting a frame without any figures on it.

I also use and mask rigs and hands when the figure im filming is in a spot where the string can't get, like under something or tied up near something. Masking's also useful for erasing shadows and string if it stands out too much.

I used to use the Stop Motion Studio app on my phone (with remote app on my second phone), upload to my pc, use photo filtre 7 to edit string, use photoscape x to make the gif, and sony vegas pro 17 to throw in sound, other video, and etc. ESP used to knit pick about my motion blur that was on Sony Vegas by default, until I found an option to get rid of it completely.
Now I currently use Dragonframe 4 to take the pics with a 1080p webcam. I close out the program, as it saves the pics in a folder I make. I edit the string and tac with Photofiltre 7, I found a trick to edit the string out with the crowd backdrop. I open Dragonframe back up, import the edited pics into my project and set the desired fps and export it into an MP4 file for Sony Vegas. Then I use Sony Vegas to do the usual editing the sound effects in. This new way does eliminate the use of Photoscape X.
The only gripe I have about Dragonframe is that I try to do an animation in one shot. If I close out and pick up where I left off, the contrast, saturation, and etc would revert to default settings.
